Bio

Mike is a leading authority on integrated reporting and has provided advisory services to participants in the International Integrated Reporting Council Pilot Program and to consulting organizations seeking to enhance integrated reporting capabilities for clients. He has also worked with companies exploring the adoption integrated reporting and with organizations that want to use integrated reporting concepts to improve their sustainability reports.

Mike is co-author, with Robert G. Eccles, Professor of Management Practice at the Harvard Business School, of One Report: Integrated Reporting for a Sustainable Strategy. One Report—the first book on integrated reporting—won a 2010 PROSE Award for Excellence in Business, Finance & Management and was translated into Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese.

Mike is a member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board Advisory Council and of The Alliance of Trustworthy Business Experts. He is a Fellow of the Governance & Accountability Institute.

Trust Across America named Mike one of the Top 100 Thought Leaders of 2010. He was a 2010 Cecil and Ida Green Honors Professor at Texas Christian University, Neeley School of Business. Mike worked with the Secretariat of the International Integrated Reporting Council and was a member of the SAM Group 2010 Sustainable Asset Management Faculty. He served as Executive Director of the AICPA Special Committee on Enhanced Business Reporting and Chairman of the AICPA XBRL Assurance Task Force. Mike was a member of the XBRL-US board of directors and the AICPA Assurance Services Executive Committee.

Mike has 40 years of experience in public accounting and industry. Prior to founding Mike Krzus Consulting in 2011, he was Grant Thornton’s global corporate reporting expert. Mike also worked in the Arthur Andersen Assurance Professional Standards Group (1999-2002), the BDO Seidman National SEC Practice Group (1995-1996), and the Checkers Simon & Rosner Accounting and Auditing Quality Control Group (1986-1995). Mike began his career with Illinois Central Railroad in 1973 where he moved through five progressively more responsible positions and became Director of Financial Reporting in 1983. Mike returned to IC Railroad in 1996 as Internal Audit Director.

Mike received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Calumet College (1980) and he is a Certified Public Accountant (1981). His service in the Army (1970-1973) included a tour of duty in Vietnam (1971-1972).
